DESCRIPTION:
This is a view of Mount Hood across Trillium Lake near Government Camp, OR off Hwy-26 at the foothill of Mount Hood. The top of Mount Hood (Pearly Gates) is at elevation 11,249 feet above sea level and approximately 7,200 feet above the valley floor near Lake Trillium. The small Community, Ski Resort of Timberline is located at approximately 6000 feet in elevation. No trees grow above that level with yearly snow caps covering the upper elevations. The Timberline Lodge was used in the filming of the Shining, in 1980 with Jack Nicholson, written by Steven King. Mount Hood has claimed many Mountain Climbers life’s including the highly published (CNN) Florida Climbers the winter of 2006.
